We Are the 1 in 5

Survive & Thrive

For the most part, I had a wonderful, loving and protected childhood.
But there was one incident at age 7. I fought them off, and thought I was OK. But subconsciously, I was traumatized.

There is no such thing as “just a little abuse”. Even a small incident can have lasting effects on a child.

I certainly didn’t suffer nearly as much as most victims of childhood sexual abuse. But because of that one incident in my own childhood, I can empathize with those who did. Telling my story has been healing for me. Even more healing, is knowing that I am not alone, and that there is a caring and supportive community here, who will listen to you and really hear what you have to say, without judging you.
Join us, and begin to heal.

I was sexually abused at age 10. I never told because I felt ashamed and scared. For many years after, I hurt myself. I used drugs and alcohol to numb my pain. I stayed with a man who abused me because I felt worthless.
My daughter saved my life :)
There are still days that it is really hard, but it gets better. Knowing that I’m not alone helps pull me through

Today, I speak out for that little tree climbing girl, and all of the children (and adults) who suffer in silence.
I am NOT Ashamed. I am PROUD to be a survivor. I am strong and beautiful-and SO ARE YOU!
